Centennial
The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering will celebrate its centennial in 2009.
Plans were recently announced for a celebration to honor the 100th anniversary of the Penn State industrial engineering department. A series of activities and events to commemorate the centennial are scheduled for Apr. 3 - 4, 2009.
The IE centennial celebration will be a memorable event celebrating the accomplishments of the department, its faculty, staff and students over the last hundred years. The celebration will also focus on the future goals of the department and its mission to produce world-class, globally aware industrial engineers.
More than 500 alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends are expected to participate in the weekend's activities at the University Park campus. The celebration will kick off on Friday, Apr. 3 at the Leonhard Building, with activities including a welcome picnic, Leonhard Building tours, campus tours, children's activities and a Saturday evening reception.

The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering was featured in the Beaver Stadium magazine's Homecoming edition on October 18.
The magazine recognized the IE department for being the world's first and oldest industrial engineering department. The IE department observes its centennial anniversary this year with celebration events scheduled for 2009.

A centennial book is being created that illustrates the remarkable history of the department and will be exhibited at the centennial celebration in April. Copies will be available for those in attendance.
